The distinctive Shay locomotive combined incredible pulling power with the flexibility needed for logging railroad grades, making No. 14 a true workhorse of the West Side Lumber Co. Whether battling up a mountain grade or easing a heavy log train through the redwoods, No. 14 earned its place among California’s most memorable logging locomotives. Now in Felton, California, the 14 will continue pounding heavy grades but instead hauling passengers.
